Change your church for good.

Brad Powell, pastor of NorthRidge Church in Plymouth, Michigan,Change Your Church for Good is best enjoyed if you start in chapter four. The opening chapters sound like a lot of other church growth/leadership books with little new information.
Powell is able to redirect and move into some practical advice for church leaders that will prove effective if used over the long haul. Most churches have become too focused on inside their walls and become to inward looking. What churches haven’t remembered is “the church isn’t a building, a program, a board, a committee, or any other such thing. The church is people, the family of God.”
Throughout the entire book, Powell looks at what many churches have become and does a great job of showing that this is not what God intended for His church. Even if the church has become stale and inward, there is still hope for them of changing and becoming a powerful force for Christ’s kingdom. Brad Powell reminds readers that the church really is the hope for the world. Churches need to help people make the connection to God to others and to ministry.

Sunday Reflections

Well it’s been a long time since my last update. I am going to try to update more often. Well Easter Sunday was a great! Here are just a few of what I call Sunday Reflections ok here we go.

-Kicked off today with a new sermon series called making a fresh start.

-A lot of planning went into the service today. It started about 1 ½ month ago.

-Praying for the people God was going to send that day.

-Choir started practicing. We made the decision early on not to do any thing out of the ordinary but to make the service the best it can be. The choir did a great job of singing & mixing things up.

-We mailed out postcards, Invite cards, email & phone calls.

-We prepared for the first time guest God was going to send by redoing our resource table, First time guest packets, bulletins because first time guest are a gift from God.

-Cleaning up the grounds Pete & Carol did a great job at making sure the grounds were clean by mowing, picking up trash & glass (someone just loves breaking glass on the parking lot.)

-Ann and her two helpers made sure the inside was clean and bathrooms were stocked up and she also cleaned off the steps to the church.

-All of the people who helped out today from handing out bulletins, First time guest packets, running the sound, preparing the communion table and I am sure I am forgetting someone but thanks to all of those from team Calvary.

-The end result 105 people today at our Easter Service. Most of our members were their some who haven’t been to church in a while and a lot of guest.

Church Growth

When it comes to church growth the question we need to be asking is what is keeping our church from growing. With praying and a lot of evaluating God will reveal what steps you need to take.

fireproof the movie

This past Sunday night we showed the movie fireproof. We put together a screen that was 8ft x 18ft it looked just like you were at the movies. We didn’t have as many as I thought we would but we still had a pretty good crowed and a lot new faces. We are using this movie to kick off the sermon series based on the movie that starts this Sunday Feb. 1st.
